Airport Arrival

Jorge Chavez International in the city of Lima is located 16 kms northwest of the city. The trip to the city takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour, depending on where you want to go and the traffic. To access the airport from Surco and La Molina you can take the fast track “Linea Amarilla” which is accessed by the Via de Evitamiento. You should consider that by this route 2 tolls will have to be paid on each. This payment is in cash and in soles or the PEX toll can be purchased and advanced toll payments are made which are downloaded as they are used.

When you arrive in Lima, going through immigration, you will find the luggage trolleys. After removing your luggage, you must go through the baggage control system. If you do not bring items to declare, customs officials will decide if they should place the luggage on the x-ray machine or if you can leave without review.

When traveling to Lima, consider that the rush hour at the airport is between 10pm and 1am, since the greatest number of flights arrive at these times.

Consider also that Peruvians usually travel outside the country for vacations, especially for National Holidays (July) and for New Year’s Eve (Christmas and New Year). At this time the airport is especially crowded.

Taxis and Vehicle Rentals at the Airport

After passing customs, you will find a module in which the taxi services authorized by the airport are offered. We recommend that you opt for this service, instead of using the taxis that are waiting in the airport parking lot, since they are not neccessarily safe.

You can also hire the airport pick-up service before your arrival in Lima. In these cases, the hired taxi driver will wait for you at the exit of customs with a sign that will bear your name, facilitating his recognition. You can hire the taxi beforehand, coordinating with the travel agency that will bring you to Lima, or by calling the taxi company directly.

The fare for taxi service to the airport is around US $ 15 for San Isidro and Miraflores and approximately US $ 25 for La Molina and Monterrico. There is also a remisse taxi service (Premium service), which can be hired at the airport or prior to your arrival. These charge a fee of around US $ 35 for San Isidro and Miraflores, and US $ 45 for La Molina and Monterrico.

The airport tax (T.U.U.A) is US $ 31 for international flights and S / 37.12 (US $ 10.92) for domestic flights. These rates may change. To verify the current rate you must go to www.lap.com.pe. This rate is usually included in the flight ticket.
