Local currency is Sol. To know the exchange rate of the day, visit: www.bcrp.gob.pe.
We recommend not changing dollars in the street but in banks, hotels and exchange houses. You should also consider that most large stores will accept US $ as a form of payment, and will give you your change in national currency.

As of October 2010 there are new S/2 y S/ 5 coins.
Since June 2011 there are new S/10 y S/20 bills and since August 2011 there are new S/50, S/100 y S/200; however, the previous coins and bills are still valid, although they are already rare.
